The Marriage Course was developed by Nicky and Sila Lee in 1996. Having been married for over forty years with four children, they have spoken to thousands in their mission to reinvigorate marriage and family life around the world. They have also created The Marriage Preparation Course, The Parenting Children Course and The Parenting Teenagers Course.

The Marriage Course talks are presented in DVD talks featuring Nicky and Sila Lee or live talks. The talks are interspersed with filmed clips of couples talking about their experiences of marriage and street interviews from around the world.

This course is practical, giving any married couple the tools to significantly improve the quality of your married life together.

  • Who is it for?

The Marriage Course is for any couple who wants to invest in their relationship, whether they are in a married relationship for one year or 61 years, and whether feel they have a strong relationship or are struggling. Some couples do the course to invest in their relationship, others need more urgent help. Either way, the course offers a lifetime of practical ideas and tools to help improve and strengthen your relationship.

While The Marriage Course is based on Christian principles, it is designed for couples with or without a Christian faith. Many couples who are not church goers have commented that the Christian content was presented in a way that did not make them uncomfortable at all.

  • What are the topics?

    Building strong foundations
This session helps couples to look at their lifestyle and its effect upon their marriage, and to discover more about each other’s needs and desires – particularly on an emotional level.

    The Art of Communication
Listening is a vital skill for a strong marriage. In this session, couples practise communicating their feelings and listening effectively to one another.

    Resolving Conflict
In this session, we look at how couples can increase their intimacy by expressing appreciation for each other, recognising their differences, learning to negotiate disagreements and praying for each other (if they feel comfortable doing so).

    The Power of Forgiveness
The session addresses the ways we will inevitably have hurt each other and how to resolve it so that we don’t create a backlog of anger and resentment. We look at the process of healing through identifying the hurt, saying sorry and forgiving.

    The Impact of Family
We focus on helping couples recognise how their family background affects the way they relate to each other. Couples are guided to consider how they can build a good and healthy relationship with their parents, in-laws and wider family, and how hurt from childhood can be healed.

    Good Sex
Sexual intimacy needs to be worked at and developed. It isn’t just the icing on the cake; it’s a vital ingredient of the cake itself. In this session, couples are encouraged to talk about their sexual relationship and to recognise where they need to make changes.

    Love in Action
This session looks at five ways of expressing love – through words, time, touch, presents and actions. Couples discover which expression of love is most important for their partner and how to put this into practice.

    Celebrating the Success
    Dinner event

  • What others say?

“The marriage course has benefited us in numerous ways but to put it into one sentence that’s tough! Here it goes- Having four children and full-time ministry we don’t have ‘us time,’ the marriage course helped us to create and value this time together. It’s in this time that we learn to enjoy our many differences and resolve any issue that comes up.”

“We didn’t have the privilege to attend pre-marital counselling so the Marriage Course has blessed us with new insight on what marriage is and how to navigate through the calm and storms of marriage.”

“We found the course relaxed, easy going & non-threatening making it easy for us to open up to each other on very important matters that are seldom discussed. The course was a good reminder to us of the many good & helpful practices that a couple should adhere to. We would certainly recommend the course to other couples especially first timers.”

“The Marriage Course is different because it reminded us the importance of setting a weekly time together – this helped us to draw closer & rediscover each other – especially in these busy days.”

“Through the ‘ Marriage Course’, we learn about each other’s ‘Love Language’. We now focus on these to enhance our marital relationship. In particular, we always look forward to our ‘Marriage Time’ – a much valued time for just the two of us.”

“We’ve been happily married for nine years, actively parenting three growing kids and managing our corporate jobs in the hustle bustle of KL life! The marriage course over seven lessons was both refreshing and practical – sprinkled with timeless marriage principles and easy to apply into our day-to-day husband-wife relationship. It was great to see young and very ‘matured’ married couples blessed wonderfully!”

“The marriage course has certainly helped us – our love is stronger, our home is happier, and our family is growing bigger!”

“The Marriage Enrichment Course gave us a unique opportunity to reflect on our marriage over the last 24 years. We had our storms on few occasions and thank God we managed to pull through each time. But now we can look forward to the next 25 years with more hope and cheerfulness as the Marriage Course has equipped us with essential tools that can suppress any storms before they even have a chance to surface. We also learnt that so long as we put GOD in the centre of our marriage, our marriage will just bloom like beautiful flowers in the garden, guaranteed.”
