- If a picture can speak a thousand words, we hope this video will paint you a million. Watch the video below that conveys the inner workings of DUMC to you.
Welcome To DUMC
As a church our vision is can be summed up in that one simple statement.
In short, we’re all about God and we’re all about people. DUMC is made up of a diverse group of people ranging from families to teenagers to young adults and it is our heart’s desire to run alongside each other in the race of life as believers of Christ.
Our mission as followers of Jesus is further broken down into 3 clear distinctives:
DUMC also believes that there is a need to invest in the here & now as well as for the future. One of the key challenges society faces today is the generational divide and we are committed to bridge the gap by investing in young adults, youth and kids so that they can one day make a difference in our nation & beyond.
If your heart resonates with what we’re all about, swing by our weekend celebrations on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings and hang out with us after for a cup of coffee (or tea). We’d love to meet you!In the Triune God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
That Jesus Christ is true God and true man.
That the Holy Spirit is a divine Person.
That the Old and New Testaments are God’s divinely inspired words.
That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and are in need of salvation.
That salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all. That it is the will of God that every believer be filled with the Holy Spirit and lead a holy life.
That healing is provided in the redemptive work of Christ and is available to every believer.
That the Church consists of all those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.
That there shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust.
In the personal, visible and imminent return of Jesus Christ.
Twenty two young professionals in their 20s and early 30s and three young children relocated from their mother church, Sungei Way-Subang Methodist Church (SSMC), to start Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in 1980. The pastoral responsibility was initially shouldered by a team of three elders led by Daniel Ho. The other two elders were Dr Ling Khoon Chin and Dr Wong Cheng Mung.
The first Sunday service was on 6 January 1980. There were 80 people at this inaugural service, amongst whom were invited guests and friends from SSMC. The birth of DUMC was a simple affair, with no parade and fanfare.
DUMC occupied the first floor of a four-storey shop lot located a few doors from The Ship restaurant in Damansara Utama. There was no air-conditioning and the floor was not even carpeted. The only musical instrument was a guitar – played by Daniel Ho! After the initial weeks where members of SSMC came to give support, the church congregation settled down to the pioneer group of 22 people. Sunday services were held at 5.00 pm and it soon attracted a number of doctors and medical students from University of Malaya who found the timing convenient. Often, Daniel Ho would lead worship, play his guitar and preach the sermons.
Apart from the Sunday services, there were two home fellowship groups that met for worship, fellowship, prayer and study of the bible. Members in each group would help, encourage and support one another in their daily life and discipleship.
- Over the course of time, DUMC has achieved many milestones by the grace of God. Here are some of our wonderful achievements since inception in 1980.
