There is something special about the assembly of God’s people singing, praying and working together to commemorate the advent of the Lord that brings a hushed reverence to the otherwise worldly understanding of Christmas.
Celebrating Christmas as a church holds profound significance, embodying both spiritual contemplation and communal joy – deepening one’s spiritual connection and reinforcing the values of love, hope, and unity. Unity in God’s family is a key factor in moving as one in the Spirit. The communal aspect of Christmas celebrations within a church strengthens the bonds between members and nurtures a sense of belonging and ownership – an aspect which needs to be strengthened for church growth. By celebrating together, congregants are reminded that the church is the family of God. Hence, the theme for this year’s Christmas – “Come Home for Christmas”.
With this in mind, you can be a part of any or all of the following initiatives:
Advent Corners
4, 5, 6, 11, 13 Dec 2024
This is a series of Christmas activities planned across weekday evenings where the concourse will be divided into “corners” like corners in a house. From painting to decorating Christmas trees, photography to cooking, the aim of these evenings is to bring the church together for fellowship whilst preparing God’s house for Christmas. (And to have a screen-free evening for many!) There will be a re-group after the activities when everyone will gather in the “living room” (Concourse 1) of God’s house to listen to the Advent/Christmas story.
At the end of every evening, a Christmas supper prepared by the participants of the cooking activity will be served – quite like the way Grandma dishes out supper when we visit her house! Observing Advent through a series of weekday Christmas-themed evenings will be the perfect segue into Christmas day.
Carolling Team

Christmas Day Celebrations

In essence, celebrating Christmas as a church is a multifaceted experience. It is a time for spiritual renewal and communal unity – embodying the true essence of the Christmas spirit.
Come home this Christmas to join in the celebration as one body. As the old hymn reminds us:
Blest be the tie that binds,
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship our spirit finds
Is like to that above.
