On looking at the story of Hannah in the book of Samuel, I am reminded of my mum-in-law. Her life story of hardship due to visual disability has never stopped her from doing her duty as a responsible mother to her children. Struggling to raise her two children by working as a domestic helper, she has always found time to pray. Even until today at the ripe age of 92, she still keeps to her routine to read the bible after her breakfast. In every situation, she calls on the Name of Jesus to help her. Her unfailing faith in God and her prayers for her children had motivated me as a mother to follow in her footsteps as I hear of stories of her constantly praying for her son who was always up to mischief during his younger days. She has never given up in praying for her children, so much so that they have been protected from any harm or danger.
Reflecting on her life, she is truly a testimony of a prayerful mother, abundant in faith and overflowing with love for her children. I am deeply encouraged by this “mother”, whom I proudly call my mum-in-law. I pray that all mothers, spiritual mothers, grandmothers and all, who are in the ministry of raising children, to keep on praying and seeking God during good times and ever more so in challenging times. Our work is never done til the day we have finished our fight in this life. May He say “Well done, good and faithful one” when we meet Him again
