Our Best Thought is a weekly devotional thoughtfully penned by leaders in DUMC arising from their daily devotions. The devotional’s title, “Our Best Thought” is taken from the hymn, “Be Thou My Vision” as a reference to God: “Thou my best thought, by day or by night.” Publishes on Sundays.<\/em><\/p>\n

Scripture:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”<\/p>\n

“Pardon me, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”<\/p>\n

The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”<\/p>\n

Observation:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Israel had been oppressed by the <\/strong>Midianites for seven years because they did evil in the eyes of God. Despite their disobedience to God, He loved them, saw their suffering and set about His plan to rescue them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along came Gideon, a man who was the least in his family, from a clan which was the weakest in Manasseh. He was the lowest of the low and yet God chose to use him to in His plans to save the people of Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Application:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

When I am asked to do something, I need to look beyond what I am and my capabilities. I may be the least qualified to do the task but the person asking me either sees something in me or was led  by God to approach me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I must be open to allow God to work in me and through me, expanding my abilities to accomplish His work. If God wants me to do something, nothing will stand in my way. He will provide me with all the resources that I need to finish the work.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am once again reminded that God loves to use the foolish things of the world to shame the wise and the weak things of the world to shame the strong (1 Cor. 1:27).<\/span><\/p>\n

Response:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Dear God, Thank You for the many people that You have brought along the way to help me finish the many tasks of the past. Help me to always be quick to respond when You call. To say, “Here I am Lord, use me.” Grant me courage and strength to hold and to finish the task that You have place in my hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.<\/p>\n
