The sermon this week was quite heavy on evangelism. It’s uncomfortable to say the least for me as the result of a spiritual gifts survey had revealed quite rightly that evangelism is not my forte. But as Reverend Miles pointed out, not all of us are cut out to be evangelists. Each of us do have a role to play in evangelism though, be it hosting an event, inviting someone to come, helping out in serving, technical support or administration, even leading the small group discussions. I came to appreciate that evangelism has many forms and does not necessarily take the form of going on a mission trip somewhere, or doing one-on-one evangelism. It can start where I am, with what I have.
I am reassured with some stories I received from friends many years after we last interacted that the conversations we had aroused their curiosity which led them to Christ, some even to serving in full-time ministry in various churches and places. All it took from me was being open about being Christian, being willing to share and invite them to events at church and CG. Hearing what Reverend Miles shared this week however has prompted me to think where else I can challenge myself further.
My hope is that whichever be your mode of spreading the Word, you will hear of stories that reassure you that you are one of the many boats helping with the haul of fishes, and encourage you to continue growing for an even bigger haul. I know I am looking forward to what He might bring ahead.
