A churchwide mandate to serve communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic throughout Malaysia
Hi DUMC!
What an unprecedented 12 months it has been. I could still remember vividly at the start of 2020, the whole church was gearing to GO. Plans were made and hearts were ignited. One mission team has even bought their flight tickets before everything came to a sudden standstill.
“What shall we do now?!” “How can we allow the enemy to rob us of the opportunity to gloriously celebrate our church’s 40 years of God’s faithfulness?” These were some of the immediate thoughts that flowed through our minds then. But wait… isn’t our God sovereign and Jesus still sitting on the throne? Indeed He is and we know this is true because a good 182 IMPACT Now projects were eventually carried out by the different Cell Groups in 2020 – despite the travelling restrictions, despite the economic crisis and despite the fear that has gripped many. Glory to God!
We could only look back in amazement at how God has made it possible for us to be a blessing to the nations, represented by those around us and beyond. And surely it does not, and must not end there because IMPACT was meant to be the catalyst to grow us to be an outward-looking church that loves God, serves people and makes disciples. In other words, we are to keep going and allow God to use us for His purpose where He wants to place us or lead us. Apostle Paul reminds us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6:9-10).
Don’t be weary, seize every opportunity and do good to all people. That is the essence of IMPACT and it is not confined to a certain season only. For that reason, we will be extending the IMPACT Now initiatives, which for clarity will now be in the following form: SERVE, BLESS, OWN and FUND.
We want to SERVE the needy – the community centres and the marginalised. We want to BLESS a church, locally or overseas. We want to OWN a neighborhood through prayer and outreach. We want to FUND an initiative and meet a need. So let us continue to avail ourselves to be
God’s impacting vessels this 2021 and beyond – for the harvest awaits us.
