Sermon Reflection: Poor Leadership Baton Passing

Contributed by Michelle Chuah • Aug 8, 2023

Listening to Senior Pastor Daniel’s sermon brings back memories of the time before GE14. It was more than a decade ago when my family and I decided to attend DUMC because of its leadership under Founding Pastor Daniel Ho. We felt welcomed by Pastor Daniel who would go around shaking hands with anyone he has not met. Through his sermons and the practicality of the messages he shared, we decided to be members of DUMC. In response to the call to serve the younger generation mooted by Pastor Chris Kam, we had joined a young adult CG as a family with our young adult children.

As God leads us, we learn more about our own walk with Christ. I am currently with a women’s group (Mid Week Moments) learning about being Truthfilled in my own life and sharing experiences with other women as we meet and encourage each other. Similarly, my husband has joined Men in the Mirror, leading and sharing in a Men’s group besides serving in Children’s Church. Today we see Children’s Church has empowered the young ones to mingle with the adults in celebration. Hopefully they will be led by God just like Samuel, to reach out and show Christlikeness to pre-believer friends or acquaintances. We pray that God continues to lead all CG leaders to be sensitive to hear from Him.

The book of 1 Samuel chapter 3 reminds us that if we are not careful spiritually we may make the same mistake as Eli. Values of humility, being teachable, sensitive and submissive to God while being accountable to one another must constantly remain in us. Let’s continue to pray for the future leaders of the church so that Christlikeness remains the main focus in our daily walk in building His kingdom.
