Sermon Reflection: Courage

Pr Ann’s sermon powerfully underscored the timeless significance of courage in navigating life’s intricate path. Yet, the message extended beyond mere bravery, revealing a profound truth: genuine courage finds its roots in the vital act of consecration to God. This isn’t just a theological concept; it’s a call to cultivate holiness before Him, which inherently blossoms into humility. And it is from this very posture of humility that we discover the readiness to embrace the courage needed to face any challenge or opportunity life presents.

This spiritual revelation struck a deep chord with me, particularly as I stand at the threshold of a new chapter in my professional journey. I’ve recognized the undeniable imperative to take a decisive first step, anchored firmly in courage, especially in these often-unpredictable times. True courage, I’ve come to understand, isn’t always about grand heroic acts; it frequently manifests in the quiet, steadfast discipline and discernment in my daily pursuits toward God’s specific will for my life.

For several years, I’ve dedicated myself to stand-up comedy, always with an unwavering commitment to crafting material that is clean, wholesome, and ultimately glorifies God. My aspiration has consistently been to ensure my work upholds biblical principles, serving as a joyful testament to His goodness in every performance.

Recently, however, a profound message from God impressed upon me a pivotal truth: the absolute necessity of surrendering my content to Him. This divine whisper arrived as I contemplated venturing into the dynamic world of social media to amplify my reach as an emcee, comedian, and trainer. At 46, navigating the ever-evolving landscape of modern digital platforms (far beyond the familiar comfort of Facebook) felt undeniably daunting. As I immersed myself in meditation and devotional practices, the divine instruction became unequivocally clear: I must surrender my content to God.

Initially, I confess, I was taken aback. Without a clear social media strategy or even concrete “content” readily at hand, my internal query was honest: “God, I don’t even have any content! What exactly do You want me to surrender?” Yet, the profound wisdom revealed this past Sunday illuminated everything: consecration forms the very bedrock of my courage to step forward.

This insight underscores a critical principle: before we meticulously devise elaborate strategies, craft clever anecdotes, or plan intricate engagement tactics for social media, the foundational act must be to surrender our content to God. This demands not only consecration but also the discipline to consistently set aside time for preparation and maintain diligent effort. While consistency and discipline are undoubtedly crucial for success, they are unequivocally secondary to the primary command: to put God first. When we make God our priority, that is precisely when we truly surrender our endeavors to Him, unlocking an unforeseen reservoir of courage and direction.

Intriguingly, as I pondered these truths, a seemingly casual inquiry about my unique strengths and potential content themes led to a remarkable revelation. It was pointed out that I possess a distinctive blend of experiences: my comedic background, engineering knowledge, writing skills, and dedicated service within the church. The compelling suggestion was to powerfully fuse my expertise in engineering with my Christian faith in all my work, creating highly niche and impactful videos. This approach not only leverages my authentic self but also opens doors to truly unique content.

Therefore, when we commit to surrendering our content – and indeed, all our heartfelt desires – to God, we can be absolutely certain that His divine purpose will not only illuminate but also actively permeate every single aspect of our lives and vocations.
