Sermon Reflection: Blessing Nations

Mission was not something I felt deeply about. I know because I had thought about working with the indigenous peoples in university while studying anthropology. But after a few field trips working in both Peninsula and East Malaysia, I knew that it was not something I could see myself pursuing long term.

Over the years that I had been in DUMC however have changed my perspective on missions. Yes, it is about going to and working with the Orang Asals, the countries where the Christian population are few, or sending people to be based in a different place to evangelise and influence the area for Christ. Yes, it is also about pooling money and resources to send to the many ministries and mission groups.

However, we often forget that we are already in the field – your own family and relatives, your friends, your housing or apartment neighbours, your colleagues … the list goes on. The field does extend to the urban dwellers in every city in the world, some who may ironically have access to church in terms of distance to a physical location and yet never heard the Gospel because no one has ever shared it with them.

As the sign above our heads as we exit the doors of Dream Centre says “You are now entering the mission field.”, let’s just pause for a while and ask Him where the mission field is for you. Furthering on that, what is your role in that field? Seek Him and ask where He is leading you, and obey as the call is given.
