Starting off life as a working young woman some forty years ago, life has been busy and challenging as a single lady at work among strangers in KL. Not a day goes by without me asking God for His help in overcoming the many hurdles I faced. Yet through difficult times God sent Christian colleagues who became family friends to help me. Some of His answers came immediately; however, there were many occasions when I waited upon the Lord for His revelation. In His sovereignty, God had already chosen me to be His child even though I did not realise it then.
Looking back over the decades, God has always been there to teach, guide and equip me as I became a Christian, learning more about Jesus through Bible studies in CG meetings. Many of these came through periods of waiting. I confess that in such times of waiting, I have a tendency to wonder if I had been forsaken by my Heavenly Father, as He seemed to be silent. However, God is always faithful, and I learnt that He works in His timing, not mine. Through the various people that He has put in my life to mentor me, God eventually promoted me to a leadership position in a small family church to help out in the church committee, while my husband was involved in the worship team. I thank God for the experiences and training through the years and am grateful and thankful that I had the opportunity to be mentored by my late lady pastor Magdalene Lim in the area of learning to pray and to trust Him in all circumstances.
As the decades passed, our family, especially my sons, have indeed been blessed with good Sunday School training and teachings in His Word. They have grown up to be faithful and godly young adults under His guidance and protection. When there are challenges in their lives, we always remind them to seek and wait upon God when we as parents do not have answers for them. After four decades since I stepped out of my family home, I thank God for always being there for me and my family during good and challenging times. However, things were not always rosy. There were many times when we were at crossroads, not knowing which paths to take when it comes to making major decisions, but we relied on God to guide us. This involved a lot of times spent with God, seeking His face and waiting upon Him. Through such periods of waiting, I have learnt to be resilient in my faith, and to seek Him first above all else. Not like God needs to prove Himself, but He has certainly showed up in my family’s life each and every time we rallied to seek Him.
In the current season of my life, I am waiting for Him to show me His greater purpose as I help to take care of my ageing 93 year old mother-in-law. Being her sole caregiver, I face many challenges which can be insurmountable. But when I reflect on how faithful God has been in coming through for me in every season of my life, I am encouraged to continue to wait upon the Lord for His providence. I choose to trust Him with a joyful attitude as I journey with Him, for He Who has promised is faithful.
