Singing is part of the Christian experience. Worshipping in song, is older than the Psalms. The people of God have been making ‘joyful noises’ for centuries. In more recent times, there has been an explosion of events, billed as ‘worship experiences’, featuring well-known worship-leaders and worship bands, light-and-sound shows and thousands in audience. On the other hand, in homes all over the world, small groups of people gather and sing to God, without fanfare.

So, what is worship? What happens in worship? How we ‘do it’? Especially in our small group settings.
This is a course on worship, and particularly, worshipping God in song. It is designed to help you understand why we worship, and how we do so in song. It is also intended to help you lead others in worship in a small group setting.

In the Epistle to the Galatians, Paul confronts a situation where believers were being drawn back under the law, treating its requirements as necessary alongside faith in Christ. In doing so, they risked returning to spiritual slavery instead of living in the freedom Christ provides. Apologetics, simply stated, means “the defense of the faith.” Is Jesus really God? Did he actually rise from the dead? Is the Bible really God’s Word? These questions may seem difficult but they are not impossible to answer. In fact, these are the key issues of the Christian faith. As Paul says, “…if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile…” (1 Corinthians 15:17). Therefore, as responsible Christians, we need to learn how to defend our faith in God, the Bible and the other key Christian doctrines.

This course will teach you how to reason out your faith so that you may “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

A transformation of the heart is the goal every Christian must desire after and strive for if his/her walk with God is to be taken seriously. However, there is no shortcut to this cultivation of the inner life. Well-known author Richard Foster comments, “If we are expecting one or two worship services or study groups a week to change us, it will never happen. The whole object of the exercise is to walk with God through our days and through our nights.”

This provides helpful frameworks and skills to connect, befriend and journey with others with a deep awareness of God and the different stages of faith.
Suitable for all who desire to know how to intentionally journey better with others, in whatever stages of faith they may be.

The apostle Paul states that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph 6:12, NIV) Though the term ‘spiritual warfare’ is not found in the Bible, it is clearly biblical.

This course seeks to equip participants to minister with authority and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ. We will look into the biblical basis of spiritual warfare and examine the different practical aspects of ministry in which we are engaged in spiritual warfare.

This course will grant you a deeper understanding of the heart of God for justice – God’s heart for the oppressed is not just a peripheral concept, it forms the very heart of the gospel. Justice is more than a movement; it is a lifestyle following the example of Jesus who lived justly. We pursue justice not just because the world is broken, but because we are broken too – that in doing His work serving others, we discover more of His character, and are transformed into His likeness.

Let us come together in our collective calling to love our neighbours, speak up for the oppressed, and be effective instruments of God’s justice in the world by being beacons of hope and catalysts for sustained change.

DUMC’s Ministry Training Institute (MTI) seeks to deepen the heart and soul of leaders involved in Christian ministry. Its role is to offer leaders a place for more thoughtful and deeper-level study of God’s Word for the life of the church.

Pre-requisite: Completion of Levels 1 to 3 are needed to commence enrolment into the Institute. Admission is subject to terms and conditions.
