I have never witnessed nor participated in a Harvest Festival before, but I know that it means a lot to those celebrating it. Every year, my friends from East Malaysia will travel home for this for almost a week. And so, with the sermon entitled “Harvest Festival: God’s Feast”, it made me see the connection of festival celebrations with the heart of God.
God speaks of seasons and harvests—not just as agricultural cycles, but as moments of worship and offering. God Himself called these moments “His feasts” (Leviticus 23:1–2). Clearly, they are feasts that are important for His people to remember who He is and what He has done. God commanded us to celebrate these feasts to remember His faithfulness, His deliverance, and His redemption. And so, the Lord’s feast is no longer just about the bountiful crop harvest; it is also about how God has provided, delivered and redeemed His people.
As I reflect, I realised that my walk with God pretty much mirrors the three major feasts — Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacle. It was easy to recall that I received Salvation many years ago, followed by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. But as I thought about Tabernacle, I realised that perhaps, I am still settled somewhere between Pentecost and Tabernacle? Could I have grown complacent in a space where spiritual comfort is savoured? Am I happy where I am? Then again, by keeping to where I am at the moment, perhaps I am selling myself short of experiencing the full measure of life in Him.
And so, the Lord’s feasts are more than just feasts to remember God’s goodness and faithfulness. They are also a roadmap of God’s love and promises, capturing the essence of His death, resurrection, the giving of the Spirit, and His return. They also tell my story, of how I have received salvation, is a work in progress, and hopefully can one day dwell with Him fully.
I will press on until the day I can proudly say I am experiencing the full measure of life in Him.
