DUMC STORIES: ADELIYN

My husband and I have many ways to describe our two little ones: the squirming kettlebells, agents of chaos, furniture scribblers, tantrum creatures, snack fiends, and many more. To say they are a handful is an understatement. Like most parents with at least one toddler with not much family support, the kids really do take up a lot of our time and energy. So I think it’s safe to admit that attempting to be committed to ministry and cell group as a young parent is by no means a small feat.

Having said that, it was still possible for me to serve with the choir and Engage (previously Ignite and TLF) with caring leaders and encouraging members. It definitely helps that I have a supportive husband who takes care of the kids whenever I serve. My cell group leader and members are sympathetic whenever we cannot make it because we got wiped out by our bundles of energy on a Friday evening. They would instead visit us for a meal and take the kids off our hands, bringing the cell group to us.

I’m so grateful for the continuous support we have received from the cell and ministry groups – before and currently – in our journey in parenthood. They truly exemplify the essence of the Body of Christ and the meaning of DUMC as a family church by being an extended family to us.
