Sermon Reflection: Do You Have a New Heart?

Last Friday, my husband and I, together with two other couples, went on a trip to Vietnam to visit a few churches. The reason was for the Men In the Mirror (MIM) programme to be introduced to the men in those churches. This was because the pastors of those churches felt that the men in the congregation needed to be trained and enriched to step up as leaders.

As I accompanied my husband and another couple to visit a small church of less than a hundred members, I was indeed blessed by their passion, especially in worshipping the Lord and also praying for a member who had been struggling to walk in God’s ways, always questioning about why the family members are facing so many challenges in health and  also financially for himself.

That morning he came forward and knelt before the altar confessing his self dependence and asking the Lord to take control of his life and his family too. It was a great breakthrough as the church members have been praying for him for many years and this time he came forth to seek God’s forgiveness. This was due to the fact that he had attended the MIM training which had spoken to his heart and the Holy Spirit had convicted his heart.

Similarly the Lord brought a young man as a tour guide for us to visit a few historical places in Saigon and he had many questions to ask us. For a start, how is it that we are not family members but we were so happy and comfortable travelling with each other? The opportunity came to share the love of God we share with each other and why we are so happy together. We then directed him to the pastor of the small church whose members are young people to further assist him in getting to know more about God.

This weekend’s sermon reminded me that truly I still need to have my heart fine-tuned and circumcised in some areas too. Daily devotion and worshipping God alone dutifully is of no use. Only when we delight in living our lives, walking closely with Him and sharing His love in our daily life can we truly say that there is true relationship and a delight to God.
