Sermon Reflection: Faith Moves Us Into The Promise

Contributed by Adeline Ting • Oct 20, 2026

I have grown up meeting many giants in my life, but there is this one particular giant that made the most impact and has become a testimony that I share with others. I once had a job that I thought was going to be my first and last job (okay, so this was a little naïve of me). After 5 years of doing comfortably well and setting up much of the systems in place, the rug was pulled from under my feet one fine day – we all had to relocate to some other state! To complicate matters, I was not privy to some internal arrangements of having staff absorbed by some other faculties in the Klang Valley that did not require them to relocate. After all the chaos, the ultimatum was served – I was told to go their way or take the highway. And so, I took the highway.

The highway was unknown and unfamiliar. As I was serving my last year in the soon-to-be ex-workplace, I was in a limbo where my future was greatly uncertain. I knew I could not end up with no work; there are bills to be paid and commitments to honour, and there’s a baby on the way too! I was disappointed with the turn of events, but I did not give up. I remembered the goodness of God, and so I found the courage to dig deep into my faith and placed it in God’s hand and asked Him to shape how I respond to this giant. I knew I could not allow fear to interpret who God is to me through the circumstances, rather, I allow faith in God to shape my interpretation of my circumstances.

And so, I took the step to venture into the unfamiliar, actively applying for jobs after a gap of 5 years. I did my SWOT analysis, reached out to selected places and soon got an interview. I was ecstatic – the new place seemed great, not far from my home and ticked everything on my checklist. Or so I thought, for lo and behold, God had other plans for me. This interview that I was so looking forward to, was postponed three times, to which I never made it to the interview in the end! I realised then that all these plans I made were my own plans, God was out of the equation. Yes, I relied on Him in faith, but I did not seek Him nor His direction. I merely asked Him to bless decisions that I have already made. I assumed God must be in my plans, but I have failed to listen and respond to Him in obedience. I got my own will confused with God’s will.

The lesson I learnt was to surrender my will to God. I repented and wholeheartedly followed and obeyed Him. I ask God to align my plans with His will. I did not allow the problem to be magnified, instead, I magnified God and continued to remember His goodness. And soon after, our good God led me to a new opportunity. This new workplace was willing to wait for me to commence my work after my maternity leave. Fast forward, I have been in this workplace for more than 15 years and counting!

I have learnt that faith indeed can move mountains. And I count my blessings to be at the receiving end of God’s goodness. I share my testimony to encourage others to remember the moments in our life when God has carried us, provided for us, and given us strength and courage. As we remember His goodness, we follow Him wholeheartedly, and such willing hearts are better prepared to trust Him in any given circumstances that may come our way. Let faith place our hope in God and be reflected in the way we live especially when we encounter the giants in our lives.
