The Joy of Serving God

I have always wondered about how I can serve in the church and to serve God. I cannot preach, I am not a good author who can write well, I can’t sing, I am not strong with Bible knowledge, and I have read 10% of the Bible only. I can’t remember many verses too. Oh my, how can I (someone like me) serve God?

But I really wished to.

So I started to think of the things I could do well. For instance, I enjoy hearing myself read out loud! And I knew I could use this gift to do something for the people of God.

Maybe I could read to people who needed a companion. Maybe those who are lonely, the elderly, or small kids.I had such nice thoughts, but I put it aside. The reason was I doubted if anyone would still need a real-life reader—audio books are everywhere.

Until I came to the library ministry. There is so much we can do for the body of Christ! And then, God opened door for me: to become a reader with the DUMC audio devotional project!

You see, for this project, I don’t get to choose what I will be reading for the community. I didn’t have the devotional book, so I don’t even know what else would be lining up. I treated the article assigned to me as a special article to myself too.

When I got my article, I typed it out in the font I liked. And I read it many times just to understand it. And start practicing with my voice.

So the first article assigned to me was about being the moving ark of the Almighty God. The God Who is full of glory and so beautiful. Not even my voice could convey it well enough. We all can become an evangelist, no matter who you are. Just like me, a girl who does not seem fully equipped. If God has gifted me the love to read and a voice to reach people, even just being a real reader sitting next to you. Then, I can bring the presence of God around. If I am willing, and God is with me. We are a dream team.
