DUMC STORIES: ADRIAN HO

Sent by Adrian Ho • Mar 19, 2023

Some people dread their daily commute to work especially if they’re often stuck in a traffic jam. However, for me, driving is an activity that I thoroughly enjoy as a time for reflection on God’s goodness in my life.

One morning, after a weekend night’s rain, I was driving to work as usual. Parts of the road were still wet, causing the road to be slippery. As I approached a turn, though at my usual speed and slowing down, my car suddenly skidded to another lane. Even though I tried to brake, the wheels were not gripping the road, and I came really close to crashing into the road divider before the car came to a halt. Missing it by just inches, I managed to quickly steer the car back to the right lane. Had there been other cars or motorcycles next to or behind me, I would have certainly gotten into an accident, causing harm not only to myself but also to others. Thankfully, there were none.

Throughout the whole ordeal, I felt the presence of God’s angels, and I was grateful for their protection. I quickly experienced peace for I knew God was with me. Despite the scary experience, I still use the same route to work every day, with mental reminders to always exercise caution.

A repetitive driving routine can be dangerous, but I believe that God is always with me. I trust in his power to keep me safe from harm’s way and guide me through any challenging situations that I may encounter on the road. God’s love and grace are abundant, and I am so blessed for the opportunity to experience his protection in such a tangible way. All glory and praise to God!
