DUMC STORIES: SALLY YOUNG

Contributed by Sally Young • Apr 7, 2024

I have always been very active, engaged in various activities, but on January 4th, 2024, everything changed. I had a nasty fall and sustained a mid-shaft fracture of my left femur. I was admitted to UMMC. Prayers from my brothers and sisters at CG, CMC Bentong, and all believers, have led to God’s intervention: the very next day, January 5th, I underwent surgery. All investigations and treatments were conducted effectively, and the doctors, nurses, and auxiliary staff were kind and patient. I feel immensely blessed, and God has protected me greatly. I could have sustained a head injury, which would have been fatal; a spinal injury, leaving me paralyzed; or a pelvic fracture, leading to months of immobilization and potential pressure sores.

I was discharged on January 9th with medication and self-injection instructions. Home physiotherapy and exercises began, starting with non-weight-bearing walking using a walker. While this mishap has been unpleasant and painful, it has also molded me to be more patient and understanding, teaching me not to fret over trivial matters. I am thankful to our awesome Almighty for answering prayers and providing protection. My recovery is progressing well, and all glory goes to God. I express my gratitude to everyone who has prayed for me and continues to do so. By God’s grace and strength, I will soon regain the ability to walk.

“I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord: let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.” – Psalm 34:1-2 (NIV)
