Kelsa: meaning, courage.
When we were pregnant with Kelsa and prayed for her name, we were hoping for the sorts of ‘peaceful’, ‘blessed’, ‘serene’ or ‘grace’. However, the word we got from God was ‘fighter’’. I was very disturbed by the word, for it gave me a glimpse of a difficult life for the child. While trying to find her a suitable name, we kept the word in our hearts.
At our 4th month checkup, gyne noticed rapid growth of an existing fibroid in my womb. From the existing 3x4cm, it was then 7x7cm and bigger than the foetus. At the 5th month checkup, the fibroid was 8x9cm. Gyne warned us of pre-mature delivery and explained to us the minimal chances of survival should the baby be delivered too early. Then he said, “Your baby is fighting for her survival.”
We immediately felt immense peace as we realised that God had prepared us for this all along. Our God, who was, is, and is to come, is in control, and we went home surrendering our situation to Him. We trust that God has the best in store for our family, whatever the outcome may be.
Fast forward: Kelsa was born via elective C-section successfully, and she has proved to be a little fighter through and through. Even through hospitalisation, freak accidents, life transitions, and unintended disappointments, her spirit amazes us. We thank God for choosing us to be her parents.
