DUMC STORIES: TAU FEI

After one of my classes, a student came up to me after class, asking if I’d ever experienced depression. I was tired and rushing off for a meeting, but I answered him anyway, telling him that I had experienced depression eight years ago and had to be put on medication. Then, he asked me for advice.

I was emotionless as I felt tired and needed to rush to another meeting, but something in my heart told me to sit down and listen.

He then poured out all his problems to me. His parents got divorced a year ago and his siblings and him live with their father, who still complains about their mother despite the divorce.

As he spoke, I noticed that he was always alone in class, with no friends to talk to. Prior to this, I had always wanted to talk to him but it had slipped my mind. Now, he was right in front of me! It was time to share Jesus to him.

I shared the love of Jesus to him, hoping to end our conversation well before rushing off to my meeting. However, when I asked him if he wanted to accept Jesus into his life, he told me that his mother told him that he couldn’t go back to Buddhism if he decided to become a Christian.

I used a metaphor to explain- imagine God offering you a Mercedes while you have been driving a Kancil all this while. Even though the option of the Kancil would always be there, you wouldn’t want to go back to it after driving a Mercedes.

He then decided to accept Jesus into his life! I led him into the sinner’s prayer and he then accepted Christ. Praise the Lord!
