The 2024 edition of Our Best Thought is inspired by our 2024 Bible Reading Plan and features writings thoughtfully crafted by contributors reflecting on their daily devotions. “Our Best Thought“ is taken from the hymn, “Be Thou My Vision” as a reference to God: “Thou my best thought, by day or by night.”
Reading: Revelation 5
Scripture:
Revelation 5:9-10
9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

Observation:
Revelation 5 paints a majestic scene in heaven, focusing on the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, as the only one worthy to open the scroll. The scroll represents God’s ultimate plan for redemption and judgement. The chapter reveals Jesus’ worthiness because of His sacrifice on the cross, where His blood redeemed people from every nation. This diverse, united group becomes a kingdom of priests to serve God and reign with Him. The worship in this chapter is overwhelming, with angels, elders, and every creature joining in, declaring Jesus’ glory and power.
This chapter highlights the centrality of Jesus in God’s redemptive plan and the universal nature of salvation—open to all who believe, regardless of background. It also reminds us of our identity and calling as God’s redeemed people: to worship, serve, and reign with Him.
ㅤ
Application:
Revelation 5 challenges us to refocus our lives on Jesus, who is worthy of all worship and praise. In the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget that everything revolves around Him. This chapter reminds us that our ultimate purpose is to glorify God and live out our calling as His kingdom and priests.
It also inspires hope. No matter how broken the world may seem, Jesus holds the scroll—God’s plan is in His hands, and His victory is assured. As redeemed people, we are called to worship Him wholeheartedly, serve Him faithfully, and proclaim His salvation to all nations.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You alone are worthy of all our worship. Thank You for redeeming us with Your precious blood and calling us to be part of Your kingdom. Help us live as priests who serve You daily and share Your good news with others. May we join the heavenly chorus in declaring Your glory and power forever. Amen.
